Once the game reaches Year 35 (it will end sooner if your company goes bankrupt – this will be a game over rather than a completion), you will have completed the game’s story. You can still play on from this point, but after this, there will be no more new platforms released apart from the ones you create.
Games Good Judgement Create a game with good theme/genre combination. This is for creating a game with the topic and genre being good matches. For example, making a Fantasy/RPG game will unlock this.
There is actually quite a lot of combinations and they can all be seen in this. Cult Status Set a new standard for the early gaming industry. This is for making a few successful games (good scores and so on) in your early years. So this can be missed if you do not unlock this by a certain time (I’m just going to assume before you upgrade the first office is your time limit to this). Perfect Game Release a game with a clean score of 10. This can be luck based.
Game Dev Tycoon Best Combo
A perfect game is when the player receives 10 from each of the reviewers for their game (it will also unlock if one of those scores happen to be 11). One player could make a Fantasy/RPG with all the sliders in the right places and get a perfect score, another player could copy and get one of the worst scores ever.
So there is no way in a guide helping you with this really. You can use these and keep using them until you eventually get a perfect game, but just remember, you could be at this forever due to the fact that it is luck based, there has been many times that I have got 10, 10, 10, 9. However, I have only made a perfect scoring game once, so it’s a rare occasion.
Having nearly everything unlocked should help as well. But it isn’t really required, but for some players, you could be playing til the point you have everything unlocked for this to happen.
Versatile Release a successful game in each of the five main genres. This is for making a successful game in Action, Adventure, RPG, Strategy and Simulation. Simply refer to the previous guides’ links for the tables and they’ll give you an idea of what you should concentrate on during the development. It is very unlikely that you won’t get this during your play-through at some point.
This is only for the first five genres too, you do not have to worry about making successful Casual or MMO games. Writer’s Block Naming games is sometimes difficult. When naming your game, just leave it for a minute before you do anything.
This achievement will unlock once the minute is up so long as you don’t type anything (there will already be something in the box, but this doesn’t matter). Gold Sell half a million copies of a game without the help of a publisher. See Unobtainium (seriously?) for more information. Platinum Sell one million copies of a game without the help of a publisher. See Unobtainium (seriously?) for more information. Diamond Sell ten million copies of a game without the help of a publisher.
See Unobtainium (seriously?) for more information. Unobtainium (seriously?) Sell one hundred million copies of a game without the help of a publisher.
The amount of sales your games will get depends on the average score (the higher, the better sales) and amount of fans. You may have to get the help of a publisher in order to obtain a lot of fans.
Publishing Deals are easy enough, you are given a Topic/Genre and Platform at most times. Sometimes they let you do whatever you want. I would recommend staying away from Topic/Genre combinations that you know doesn’t match well. They will also have a score set, this doesn’t need to be the average score, for example, publisher wants the game to have a score of 7, it can look like this: 4, 4, 5, 7. Just so long as the score is there somewhere. You can also get all higher scores as well, so the exact number doesn’t have to be there if you got a score like; 9, 8, 10, 10. If not, you will be hit by a penalty (it varies per publisher, make sure you have enough money to afford the penalty, just in-case) and you can still lose fans via publishing bad games.
Marketing is also very important, make your game be known, spend as much as you want on the marketing, as much as you can afford for that game, take it to conferences (whatever game you are making at the time will be automatically selected). Sometimes, you will get interview requests, always take these, sometimes they’ll ask do you want to hype the game, or what aspect of the game you are working more on, eg. Working more on Graphics than Game Engine (it’s important to be honest here as fans will find out and not be happy when the game is released and you actually worked more on Game Engine than Graphics). This will affect sales. Hyping the game and it not getting good scores (7 and above) will also result in bad sales. Keep an eye on what is popular at the moment, eg. Casual games are popular, so make a Casual game.
Although if you are developing a Large/AAA game once you see this, chances are the market will go back to normal during development which will be a waste, so it is kind of luck based in this point of the game to get your Topic/Genre/Platform popping up in the popular section during development, but it happens, sometimes. Also, having everything you can possibly research in the game is must.
Combining AAA and MMO may be costly, but with MMO you can keep it going forever (so long as you can afford it), release expansions once you see fans getting bored (eg. It’s costing more to run than profit). You will need to make sure that the scores are fairly high at all times though, even with expansions, keep note you should not build an expansion in less than 40 weeks or this will have negative effects, bad review scores. While all of the other sales achievements are extremely easy to get during your play-through, you may find you still can’t unlock this one or even get close, even past end-game. It really depends on how many fans you have and how lucky you are for trends and hype.
Eat Cake Show them red barrels some action. This is miss-able, during Year 20, you’ll have someone come and give you red barrels, they’ll request you use them in a game. Make sure the game’s genre is Action once you do. Once it is completed, the same person will give you a cake. If you messed up and used them in something other than Action, you will need to start-up a new game to try this again. Inception Develop the game within the game. Eventually you’ll be able to research the topic “Game Dev”, or you may already have it unlocked as one of your starting topics.
Once you have it, create a Game Dev/Simulation game with the name, “Game Dev Tycoon”. I’m not sure if it’s important, but I would recommend setting the platform to PC just in-case (PC does well with this combination so even if it isn’t required, you’ll already be set to getting a good score based off that).
Game Engines 100K Engine Invest over 100K in a new game engine. See 1M Engine for more information. 500K Engine Invest over 500K in a new game engine. See 1M Engine for more information. 1M Engine Invest over one million in a new game engine. As you research and unlock more game mechanics, you’ll have to build engines in order to use them.
